2025 Awards Dinner Recap
On Friday, February 27th, we gathered for an unforgettable evening filled with excitement, pride, and inspiration. The highlight of the night was honoring Bob and Phyllis and hearing heartfelt stories from community members about the incredible impact theyโve made on their lives. From personal memories to powerful testimonies, it was clear that their legacy reaches far beyond words โ shaping our community in ways that will be felt for generations to come.
2025 Award Winners
๐ Lifetime Achievement Award โ Bob & Phyllis Bordona
Bob Bordona, born in Oakdale in 1937, is a proud third-generation business owner whose family established the Bordona business in 1931. A graduate of Oakdale High School (Class of 1955) and La Verne College, Bob became owner of the family furniture and appliance business at age 35, continuing a legacy that now spans 95 years and three generations. Bob and his wife Phyllis, now celebrating 66 years of marriage, have been deeply devoted to the Oakdale community for decades. Phyllis is a former Oakdale Citizen of the Year, School Board Trustee, and longtime education advocate who has received numerous honors for her service and leadership. Together, the Bordona familyโs commitment to local business, scholarships, and civic involvement has made a lasting impact on Oakdale โ truly beyond words.

๐ Citizen of the Year โ Ami Poncabare Silfer
Ami Poncabare-Silfer has been instrumental in bringing Small Town Christmas and the ice rink to life. Her leadership and dedication created magical experiences for families throughout the holiday season. Her lifelong commitment reflects her deep love for Oakdale.
๐ Junior Achievement Award โ Avery Gleason
Avery Gleason leads with compassion and integrity across academics, athletics, and the arts. Through club leadership, youth sports volunteering, and community service, she consistently uplifts and inspires those around her.
๐ Young Professional of the Year โ Sommer White
Sommer White is a dedicated business owner and mother of three who has built her success through perseverance, sacrifice, and heart. By expanding her design firm locally and opening a full-service studio and home store in Oakdale, she has strengthened the local economy while elevating homes across the community. Sommerโs grit, compassion, and commitment to both family and business truly embody young professional leadership.
๐ 1st Responder of the Year โ Officer DiGiorno
Officer DiGiorno exemplifies the true spirit of community policing through his strong commitment to building meaningful relationships with local youth. Through consistent presence and genuine engagement, he fosters trust, encourages positive decision-making, and helps young people feel valued and respected. His dedication to mentorship and community safety continues to make a lasting impact on our community.
๐ Nonprofit/Service Club of the Year โ Love Oakdale
Love Oakdale promotes community spirit through events like the Morning Market, community workdays, and the holiday light fight. Their programs bring residents together, fostering connection, pride, and ongoing engagement in Oakdale.
๐ Business of the Year โ Gilton Solid Waste Management
Gilton Waste Management demonstrates leadership and generosity in Oakdale through its community support. This year, the business played a key role in making the Julia Haidlen Memorial ice rink possible. Its contributions provide essential infrastructure and reflect a commitment to strengthening the community.
